Scheduling Appointments.
We just wanted to remind everyone to keep scheduling online or at the front desk for all the sessions (Small Group and Team Training) that you'd like to attend. This ensures that we have a coach and a spot available for you. We will be enforcing this more moving forward due to needing to give our staff a 24 hour scheduling notice and if you show up unscheduled we may have sent a coach home already. Also, if you schedule for a session and find that you are unable to make it please cancel it either online or by calling. Thanks for your cooperation.

Movement Is Life

Movement is life and life is movement.

Getting and being fit is simple, but it has been made complicated due the abundance of products, programs, books, and gurus out there touting their special secret formula. The essence of fitness is to get up and move everyday. The more we move the healthier we will be and while we never know how long we will live, movement will add more life to the years that we have.

When looking at exercise it really can be summed up with a couple of movements: pick heavy things up (preferably overhead) and put them down, elevate heart rate, squat, bend, rotate, push things away from you, pull things towards you, and this should all be done from an upright standing position. That's it. If your workout consists of these core movements every time, you will maintain your ability to move.

The problems arise when we cease to move and begin to live sedentary lives. As we age we don't lose the ability to squat because our joints are old, although this is what many people will say, we lose the ability to squat because we don't squat. For proof of this all you have to do is look at people who are in their 80s and 90s in third world countries. They can all perform a deep squat. This is how they sit and it's also how they go to the bathroom, which is pretty beneficial. But, in westernized countries what happens? We have chairs and as we get older raise the toilet seat up. Basically, from the time we start school (sitting for 7 hours a day in a chair) we slowly stop moving and this results in us not being able to squat and move in general.

Get up everyday and move! It's one of the best things you can do for your body and your health.

3 Tips To Look Your Best This Summer

After a long winter spring is finally here, the weather is getting nicer and the days are getting longer. Before you know it summer while be here and it will be time to hit the pool or sand at the beach.

Does the thought of wearing a bathing suit make your feel less than comfortable? If so, incorporate the following three tips into your fitness routine to look your best this summer.

  1. Trade cardio for strength. Long, slow cardio isn't the most effective or efficient way to lose weight. Cardio only works if intensity is present, such as interval training. However, cardio doesn't have to be done on the treadmill. Cardio is any activity that increases your heart rate. By trading cardio for strength you will increase your metabolism greater, tone, tighten and trim up your body, and improve your cardio all at the same time.
  2. Focus on inches, not the weight. It’s easy to get focused on the weight on the scale, however muscle weighs more than fat. Yes, you’ve probably heard that a hundred times. Most people find that when they start a strength-training program like this that in the beginning the scale doesn’t move, but that their clothes start fitting better. This is good. What is happening is that they are adding muscle to their body at the same rate that they are losing body fat. This extra muscle will ramp up your metabolism causing you to burn more fat. Many people who start a diet or take up cardio with out strength training will see weight drop on the scale, but their body doesn’t really change. They just end up creating a smaller version of what they looked like.
  3. Take a 10 minute walk after dinner. Research has found that those who take a 10 minute walk after each meal, weigh less than those who don't. A great habit to get into is taking a 10-15 minute walk after dinner each night.
Do you want to look your best this summer and confidently wear your bathing suit?

Then, our 6-Week "Summer Swimsuit" Fitness Program is for you! This 6-week program will give you everything you need to look your best this summer, whether it's poolside, at the beach, or just in the backyard. The program includes: Unlimited Team Training, Unlimited Gym Access, 8 Recovery Shakes, DF T-Shirt, Weekly Measurements, and Fitness Journal. You get all this for only $129 (current DF members only pay $79). Call today to get registered 724-934-2000.
